Listen as the night
Falls to the ocean
And drapes twilight
With stars and a moon;
The tumbling waves
Become tamed tides,
The souls of the dead
Begin to walk across
The moonlit waters
Wandering ever in vain
Till they return home.
Listen as the night
Falls to the ocean
And drapes twilight
With stars and a moon;
The tumbling waves
Become tamed tides,
The souls of the dead
Begin to walk across
The moonlit waters
Wandering ever in vain
Till they return home.
Thank you. I incorporated the ancient Greeks’ belief that when people die away from their place of living, especially another land, the souls of the dead travel back to their homes. And since I am always fascinated by the ghost ships, ghosts of the sea, revenants, and the supernatural, the poem sprang from my mind’s eyes.
